Super Putty Snes is a flexible character with no weapons, only special skills to defeat Dazzledaze’s multifaceted army. He can hop-n-bop by bouncing on enemies’ heads, defrost frozen friends with a quick slap, and absorb whatever’s next to him, similar to Kirby’s famous inhale move.
Putty can soak up good or bad guys and release them somewhere else. This nifty trick separates Cool Putt from Cool Spot, making it the key to the game’s impressive graphics and gameplay. The silly putty super bounce is great.
The game’s challenge lies in the zillions of flying obstacles and increasingly complex mazes in the six levels, and the enemies getting faster and meaner. The controls also add to the difficulty, with Putty often leaping so high that he leaves the screen, making it hard to position him on small, moving platforms. While the simple Gym training level introduces Putty’s basic moves, young gamers may need plenty of practice.
Super Putty’s graphics are dazzling, with bright colors and imaginative enemies of various shapes and sizes filling the screen. The Putty Moon is a gorgeous hi-tech version of Kirby’s Dream Land with beautiful Toy Towns, Twilight Zones, and Oriental Rooms at the game’s end.
The sounds bring humor to the game, with Putty burping when he absorbs someone and boingy noises complementing the quick action. The rollicking soundtrack features appropriately fast rhythms for the frenzied fun.
