Sigma openly rebels against the humans, along with numerous Maverick Hunters. Zero is appointed as the leader of the remaining Hunters. X joins Zero and initiates combat against Sigma’s army on the freeway, but he is ambushed by Vile controlling a Ride Armor.
Zero comes to X’s aid, compelling Vile to withdraw. Zero reassures X that he possesses the potential to become much more powerful and directs him to persist in battling Sigma’s troops while he locates Sigma’s hideaway.
Mega Man X Game confronts Sigma’s commanders, annihilating all eight of the former Maverick Hunters and growing more robust in the process. Zero then notifies X that he has identified Sigma’s flying lair, and the two rendezvous to infiltrate it before it takes off. At the entrance, they are confronted with Vile, and Zero opts to face him alone but is ensnared in a trap.
X endeavors to rescue Zero, but Vile uses a Ride Armor to overpower him too. As a last resort, Zero self-destructs on Vile’s Ride Armor, allowing X to defeat him. In his final moments, Zero motivates X to continue and vanquish Sigma.
